Core Defeats 3D, Moves On To Second Straight NA Final

Posted by: MarkDolven

The Carolina Core became the first team in the history of CGS to qualify for two straight North American Championships when they defeated the New York 3D last night. After losing five straight matches to even make the playoffs, the Core had nothing to lose against the #1 seed in the league. Carolina played their best game of the season as they went on to demoralize 3D by winning all five individual games. The night started off when General E cruised to a victory in Forza after Phantom cleared the way and gave him an eternity. Things continued in the most important match of the night DOA Female where Mystik had the biggest win of her career as she defeated Coolsvilla 5-0. With all the momentum in the Core's favor, they just ran away with it. Anomaly defeated Wizakor for the fourth straight time and Offbeat Ninja continued his return to the top with a 5-1 victory over Cheppelle. With the game all but over, the Counter-Strike team only had to win a few round to secure the victory, but not only did they do that, but they won the match as well. It came down to the last round where Devour won an insane 1v2 clutch to win the match 10-8. With the big Semi-Finals victory, the Core will now move on to play the Dallas Venom who earned their ticket to the finals by defeating the San Francisco Optx in a huge comeback win. Both teams earned World Finals spots with their wins, but more the North American Final will come first and this will take place on Monday.

Playoffs Open With Core Against 3D In Round 1

Posted by: MarkDolven

The Core's run for a World Championship continues as they take on the top seeded New York 3D team in the first round of the North American playoffs. Despite losing five games in a row to end their season, the Core snuck into the big dance for North America as the fourth seed. The last time these two teams met, 3D bettered the Core, but in the match prior to that, the Core handed New York their first loss of the season. The key matchups within the overall game will be Dead or Alive 4 Female and Counter-Strike Source. Whichever team controls these two games will likely move on to not only the North American Final, but also the World Final. The Core is the veteran team as they made it all the way to the Grand Final last year, but they have their work cutout because New York 3D has looked strong this year and they are very hungry. The one thing Carolina does have going for them is that they are starting with a clean slate in the playoffs. They may not have deserved to be in the playoffs at all because of their losses, but it doesn't matter now because they can win one single game and erase all of the bad.

The action begins right at 10:00 PM EST, the match will be live on DirecTV Channel 101.

Core Miracles Way Into Playoffs, Despite Another Loss

Posted by: MarkDolven

The Carolina Core snuck into the 2008 North America playoffs despite losing their last five games. Their latest defeat was this afternoon when the Venom racers stole the franchise match for Dallas in the very last turn from Carolina. The day started off strong for the Core as Offbeat Ninja handed Master his first loss of the season. The Venom got some momentum back in the second game when Barmoa scored a late goal to send the game to a penalty shootout, which he subsequently won. In DOA Female, it was the showdown everyone expected, but Phoenix eventually managed a 5-4 victory over Mystik. In the CSS match, the Venom came out unstoppable in the first half with a 8-1 defensive side on Inferno, but the Core was able to slightly rebound with a 7-2 of their own. This meant that Dallas won the CSS game, but the Core kept it close enough to put it in the hand of the Core's league-leading racers. The race went down on Tsukuba with Chaos taking a lead into the final lap. Phantom was able to take him out which allowed GEL into the lead, but but on the following turn, Chaos returned the favor when he slammed Phantom into GEL. Phantom escaped the mayhem in first and started to take the final turn of the race, but all of the crashing had allowed Muffinman back into the race and he tapped Phantom into the wall. This meant that Dallas won the race and the overall franchise match.

The Core's playoff hopes were then on hold until the following game between Chicago and San Francisco. Because of the Core's loss, Chicago would be the fourth seed in the playoffs with a win of their own. The Optx rallied behind Vanessa and their CSS team and booked the Core's trip to the playoffs with a victory over the Chimera. The Core will now enter the playoffs as the #4 seed and they will face off against #1 3D New York on Wednesday night.

Core vs Complexity This Afternoon, Season On The Line For Core

Posted by: MarkDolven

The Core's race for the playoffs will continue this afternoon when they face off against the winless Los Angeles Complexity team. A win here would go a long way for Carolina's chances at making the playoffs. Currently tied with the Chicago Chimera, the Core has two games left and if they win both, they will make the playoffs. In the first match of the year between Los Angeles and Carolina, the Core easily won the match behind strong play from their Counter-Strike team, racers, Anomaly and Mystik. If the same four divisions play as well as they did the first time around, the Core should have no problems. One cannot discount Complexity just because they are winless however because they almost beat the Optx in their last match. Both of these teams desperately need a win, so the emotions will be riding high and the action is sure to be intense.

The action begins right at 7:00 PM EST and it will take place off-camera.

Updated Playoff Picture for Region 1

Posted by: MarkDolven

There are only two nights of matches left in the Region 1 Regular Season and we're starting to see the dust settle before the playoffs. Currently only the New York 3D and Dallas Venom have guaranteed spots in the big dance, but San Francisco, Chicago and Carolina are all still eligible. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, their winless record eliminated them from the playoffs years ago. There are a plethora or scenarios that could happen, so in this article we are going to walk you through them so you better understand the race.
