Renji's Daily Predictions: DOA4 Training Camp Week 3
Written by David "Renji^" Strausser, Feature Writer of the Carolina Core
Another week has passed in the CGS Training Camp, bringing us now to the 3rd week of excitement. Although the Core received another loss in week two, General Manager Mark Dolven still keeps his head held high as his team faces the Chicago Chimera this week, in what can be said to be the first true rematch after the 2007 Grand Finals. For now, we will be turning our attention to Dead or Alive 4, where men and women alike duke it out to show us who is truly the best.
*** These predictions are assuming each franchise will play their starting line-up, which is likely not the case ***
Carolina Core vs Chicago Chimera
Dead or Alive: 4 Male
Both franchises are returning this week to the DOA4 Male division with a loss under their belt from week 2. Ryan "Offbeat Ninja" Ward was completely shutdown in a 5-0 loss to LA CompLexity's new recruit Perfect Legend, while Jeremy "BlackMamba" Florence also suffered a defeat at the hands of Dave Chapelle.
With last week's performance aside, we cannot overlook Ryan's performance last year, which lead him to an overall 11-1 record which placed him first in his division. There is a reason why he has been known as "Mr. CGS", and I have a feeling he will show us exactly why that is tonight in his match up against Chicago.
Carolina Core 5 > 2 Chicago Chimera
Dead or Alive: 4 Female
Last week, Kat "Mystik" Gunn, showed us exactly why she deserved to make her return to the CGS this season as she completely shutdown LA's Megan "Belle" Cedar in a 5 - 1 victory. KasumiChan on the other hand, did not get off to such a great start so far, suffering a 1 to 5 defeat last week against 3D's Coolsvilla. With both of these matches in mind, as well as Mystik's strive to show her improvements as well as her will to win, I can foresee Core walking away with this match in the bag.
Carolina Core 5 > 2 Chicago Chimera
Los Angeles Complexity vs San Francisco Optx
Dead or Alive: 4 Male
Lake's first pick of the season of Carl "PerfectLegend" White showed us he is truly worthy of his spot on LA's roster, as he defeated "Mr. CGS" Ryan Ward in a 5-0 shutout, a task which has never happened before during an official CGS match up. NinjaCW, champion of GVN, is also no laughing matter when it comes to skill in the DOA arena. With both of these talented players going head to head this week, I can guarantee this will be a close and exciting match, but I foresee PerfectLegend sealing another 5 points for the Los Angeles CompLexity.
LA Complexity 5 > 3 San Francisco Optx
Dead or Alive: 4 Female
This match should be a true testament as to how much Megan "Belle" Cedar has truly improved after finishing last season without a single win, as she has been faced up against the only DOA player, in the both male and female categories, to go undefeated. While Belle's performance in the combine, as well as her performance during week one has been nothing but impressive, I still do not believe she has reached the point in her career to where she will be able to take down the reigning champion Vanessa.
San Francisco Optx 5 > 1 LA Complexity
New York 3D vs Dallas Venom
Dead or Alive: 4 Male
Manny "Master" Rodriguez is quite arguably one of the best DOA:4 players to ever pick up a controller. His CGI 2006 championships, as well as his performance last season in the CGS, give him the bragging rights that he so tenaciously takes advantage of. 3D's Chepelle is also a very talented player in the DOA scene, as he managed to take down Chimera's franchise player last week in a strong 5 to 3 match up.
While Chepelle certainly has the character and charisma to take this match home, I believe Master has the experience, and the support from his fans giving him the extra strive in order to give his team another DOA victory.
Dallas Venom 5 > 3 New York 3D
Dead or Alive: 4 Female
Last week came to a bit of a surprise to me, when Venom's female draft pick of Michelle "Phoenix" Pleet, was defeated by Vanessa in a massively upsetting 1-5 loss. Myself, as well as many others, expected Phoenix to really step up to the plate and make it a close and exciting match. What we got however, was quite the opposite. On the other hand, 3D's Coolsvilla walked all over KasumiChan in a humiliating 5-1 victory. Some have discussed the possibility of "Sandbagging" in this match-up, as KasumiChan used a character she's never been seen using before during her previous performances.
Whether sandbagging was an issue or not, Coolsvilla was able to come out on top, and I don't see any reason as to why she cannot do so again this week over Phoenix.
New York 3D 5 > 3 Dallas Venom
Offbeat > Mamba
Mystik > KC
PL > NinjaCW
Vanessa > Belle
Chepelle > Master (Upset Special of the Week)
Phoenix > Coolsvilla
