In the opening match of the of the sixth CEVO Professional season, the Carolina Core faced off against the upstart Gaming Revolution team. These two teams met at the CGS combine over a month ago, but tonight would be a clean slate for both teams. The Core started as the defensive Counter-Terrorists on Inferno and they started strong. DAFF opened up the match with a huge three kill round and this set the tone for the entire half. Sonny opened up the second round with three instant kills of his own when they tried to hit the banana bombsite. Behind DAFF and Devour’s continued fragging, the Core jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the match. Gaming Revolution bounced back to win three of the next five rounds, but the damage had already been done. The Core won the first the half convincingly 8-4 behind 14 frags from Devour and 13 from DAFF.
Gaming Revolution opened up the second half with a defensive round victory of their own, but Devour ended their momentum instantly with three quick frags in a row in the second round. The Core rode this momentum and started to trade rounds with Gaming Revolution. The problem was that even though GRev was winning rounds, they needed to win so many after a poor first half that trading rounds would not be enough. Devour continued his strong play, but he was joined in this half by Org who started to warm up with his AK47. The Core went on to close the match out in the eighth round with a 5-3 half victory. This gave Carolina an overall 13-7 victory in their first CEVO-P match of the season.

In the second match of the opening night double header, the Core faced off against the newly formed ’94 Knicks. This team is made up of a plethora of CS: Source veterans including former Dallas Venom player Derek “exodus” Heidinger. In this match, the Core would start as the offensive team, again on Inferno. Devour continued where he left off from the previous match and start the match with a three kill opening round. Carolina again ran with this momentum and started the half by winning an unheard of six of the first seven rounds. Badapples killed four for the 94 Knicks in eighth round to get them their second round of the match, but this was all the Core would give them. Carolina answered back and won the remainder of the offensive rounds which ultimately meant they won the half 10-2. On a map that is normally defensively biased, this was a extremely strong first half for the Core.
Only needing to win three rounds to close out the match, the Core got right to work. Just like the previous three halves of the night, the Core simply dominated the second half of this match. The 94 Knicks did manage to win an offensive push in the second round of the second half, but this was all they would get. The Core made quick work and easily got the three rounds they needed to win the match. The final score of their second match of the night was 13-3 in favor of Carolina. This also meant that they opened up their CEVO-P season perfectly at 2-0.
