Core.CSS Back in Action
Core CSS started off amazingly, entering the season with 2 huge blowouts over Chicago Chimera and Los Angeles CompLexity. It wasn't until Core was set head to head with the currently first ranked team of 3D New York that they received their first loss of the season. After that, it appeared as though it would be all downhill from there as they were shut down by both the San Francisco Optx and the Dallas Venom later in the week.
During the same week, of all the teams, Core was pitted once again against 3D New York, the team that gave them their first loss and set them on their losing streak. The other divisions were still feeling down going into the match-up after Mystik was defeated by coolsvilla 5-4. And just when we thought things couldn't get worse, the power went out at EA studios during anomaly's match-up against last years FIFA Champion Matt "WiZaKoR" Wood. Such actions could be read by some as omens, but that didn't stop anomaly from continuing his dominance over WiZaKoR after returning to the practice room to complete the match, and he sealed the FIFA victory 3-2 over 3D's superstar.
Things were beginning to look up as we now turned our attention to the side rooms in the practice area as the two CS teams began setting up their hardware and configs for the night's match-up. Carolina Core did not look at all concerned as they began to prepare once again to face the current number 1 CS team. Perhaps it was the early morning practice that Core General Manager Mark Dolven forced upon them, which continued through-out the day.
Whether it was the hours of preparation earlier in the day, or simply the drive to overcome the obstacles placed ahead of them on their road to the championships, one thing was for sure. Carolina Core had a new attitude. They went into the match with their heads held high, with new strats under their belts, and the 100% backing of the rest of their team. The map was de_nuke, and Carolina Core started out on the terrorist side, in which they finished the half 7-2, which is certainly anything but an easy task. During the CT side, they maintained the same calmness as the last half, and ended the match-up with an overall score of 14-4, against one of the current best CS:S teams. This amazing blowout allowed Offbeat Ninja to cruise to a 5-2 victory over Dave Chepelle, and an overall win for the Carolina Core franchise.
Was Carolina Core's CSS victory over 3D just a fluke? or has the team truly gotten their acts together and changed for the better? There is only one way to find out, and that will be the results of tonight's match when Core goes head to head with Chicago Chimera. Be sure not to miss the action at 11pm EST.
